    Low Voltage Heating Pad

Posted by Bekker Philip J. on 10th Mar 2019

I have ordered a second heating pad, so now have them in two different indoor locations. They are a great hit with my two cats and I would highly recommend them and The Kitty Tube Company.

So pleased with the improved heating pad.

This is my second heating pad. Very pleased with the improved wiring. The old wiring was easily chewed into three pieces by an unknown animal. I purchased the Kitty Tube house in October of 2016 for my outdoor feral kitty. She seems to love her home and uses it everyday. Thank you for an exceptional, well-made kitty house.

    I have 3

I can't say enough about kittytube. They are so easy to assemble. The shipping was fast. They are easy to clean. And now a word from the ferals......."We think they are warm and cozy on the coldest of winter nights. A couple of buddies will fit into one tube., The heater is great and it doesn't run up our persons electric bill. We really like the pillow. Oh, so comfy. Now back to my person. I would like to make a suggestion. The pillows are great but need a few snaps or a zipper so the outside can be washed separate from the inner fluff. How about an optional double pained window so I can check to see if the tube is empty before cleaning or sometimes I just want to check on an injured cat. Thanks for making a great product. Oh and how about a SALE????

Next Best Option to Being an Indoor Cat

Posted by Cat Lovers in Kansas City on 24th Dec 2016

We "adopted" a TNR neutered male cat that showed up in our back yard in May 2016, and wanted to provide a winter shelter for him. We looked at lots of cat house options via the web and decided on a Kitty Tube. We ordered the Gen 3 Kitty Tube with 2 layers of insulation and straw. We received the Kitty Tube in late October 2016, but our cat didn't seem interested in going inside the Kitty Tube until the temperature started to drop in mid-November, and then he decided it was a nice place to sleep. I was curious about the air temperature inside the Kitty Tube versus the ambient outside air temperature, so I placed a temperature sensor inside the Tube (between the straw and side insulation, about 90 degrees from the doorway) in addition to an outside sensor I already had set up. Both sensors feed a wireless monitor inside my home. I found that the temperature inside the tube was only 3 or 4 degrees higher than the outside temperature. I expected the difference in temperatures would be higher than this. Then in early December 2016, we ordered a Kitty Tube “SAFE” Low Voltage Outdoor Electric Heating Pad, to see if the temperature inside the Kitty Tube would increase. The temperature inside the Kitty Tube with the heating pad in place is about 5 or 6 degrees higher than the outside ambient temperature – not as high as we had hoped for or expected, but better than without the heating pad. I asked Jim Bradac (Kitty Tube inventor, founder, and president) about this, and he indicated that the cat should be warmed by contact with the heating pad, but that the heating pad was not intended to heat the air inside the Kitty Tube. Our cat’s “tummy” does feel warm to the touch when he first comes out of the Kitty Tube, but the fur on his back feels cool/cold. If I understood Jim correctly, sometime in 2017 he may offer a heating system that will have a warming effect on the air inside the Kitty Tube. I think the current heating pad certainly keeps our cat warmer than not having one. Maybe our cat feels perfectly warm, but I would have been more confident of that if the air temperature inside the Kitty Tube were higher. Incidentally, we put a pretty thick layer of straw on the bottom of the tube, and around the sides, and our cat rearranged the straw so that there is almost no straw on the bottom (so he lies almost directly on the fleece cover of the heating pad). We built a platform that is 24 inches above ground and has 3 enclosed sides plus a roof and placed the Kitty Tube on this platform. We read that cats feel safer being elevated above ground level, and thought that having the Kitty Tube inside this partially enclosed platform would be effective in blocking the wind and discouraging predators. To further reveal what fanatics we are, we even have a webcam set up so that we can determine when our cat is inside the Kitty Tube, since we can’t see the Kitty Tube from inside our home due to the 3-sided enclosure! In really cold weather, we move the Kitty Tube into our garage. For example, we had a 3-day period last week with low temps below zero degrees Fahrenheit, and highs of about 10 degrees. The ambient temperature in our garage did not go below 35 degrees. Our cat seemed to have no hesitation in using the Kitty Tube inside our garage. Overall, we think the Kitty Tube is a great product, and surely makes our TNR cat much more comfortable in cold weather than any other outdoor cat house that we found or could have made ourselves. So overall we are very pleased with the product and with the courteous and prompt service that we have received from Jim and his staff. It’s great that they are receptive to customer suggestions, and are continually making improvements as they gain experience with the product. One other item I want to mention is that the ceiling insulation disks (both the one that comes with the single layer of insulation and the one that comes with the second layer of insulation) were “bowed” (ie, did not lie flat) when we received our Kitty Tube. Jim Bradac told us that it would be fine to bend the insulation disks the opposite direction of the bowing to try and flatten the insulation disks so they would more nearly lie flat. Jim said we could not damage the ceiling insulation disks by bending them. We tried this and it worked quite well – after bending the disks in the opposite direction of the bowing several times, the disks now lie almost flat.

Kitty Tube Safe Low Voltage Heating Pad

Posted by Mary Frances Lawler on 28th Sep 2016

Just received 3 of the Kitty Tube heating pads. Our 2 rescue cats Gracie and Lucie love snuggling on the pad. They are both indoor cats. Gracie has had the original pad for 2 years now. She likes to snuggle in 2 places so we got one of the new pads for her. And one of the pads is going to our rescue bunny, Coco, also an indoor pet. She likes to snuggle on hers with her little cardboard cave over her. They are great. And the company stands behind its product. One of the original pads had just stopped working and Kitty Tube replaced it at no charge. You don't get that kind of customer service anymore. They are great!
